You Can Still Count on Campbell’s Soup

I’ve been complaining a lot about shrinkflation lately, and since I firmly believe that if you complain, you have to compliment in equal measure, it’s time to give some props to Campbell’s Soup.
Did you know if you shopped the shelves of grocery stores in 1898, you would find the exact same size of Campbell’s Condensed Soup as you would today? Yeah, for 126 years, Campbell’s has not changed the size of their condensed soup from 10.75 ounces. I think that is worthy of a standing ovation - especially in today’s age of rampant shrinkflation.

A ton of recipes, especially vintage ones, rely on Campbell’s soup and I am so stinkin proud of them for holding the line. Of course, they only cost 10 cents back then, but, if you account for inflation, they should be charging around $3.50 today. And I just bought this can for $1.29.

So, a price about half of standard inflation, and a quantity that has been consistent for more than a century. That’s amazing. An oasis in the shrinkflation desert we find ourselves in. So, maybe instead of cereal for dinner, go make something with Campbell’s Soup. I’ve got some casserole ideas for you if you need some inspiration.
